Josep Piqué participates in the III Forum Chile-European Union

Josep Piqué, CEO of OHL, has participated in the III Forum Chile-European Union, arranged by the Euroamérica Foundation and held between 21-22 July in Santiago de Chile, under the title Innovation as an engine for development and social inclusion. The event, which was closed by the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, has gathered representatives of the public and private sector, who have discussed the need to promote a mutual commercial and business exchange, highlighting the need to support innovation and new technologies as a model for economic development and social inclusion, including their application to education and productive sectors such as communications, energy, infrastructure and health, among others. 

Josep Piqué participated in the second day of the Forum, specifically in the third meeting entitled Investment in infrastructures as a factor for growth and social and employment inclusion, which was also attended by Alberto Undurraga, Minister of Public Works in Chile, Rodrigo Azócar, Chairman of the Santiago de Chile Subway, and Antonio Juan Sosa, Corporate Vice Chairman for Infrastructures of CAF, Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina. 

OHL’s CEO highlighted the role of infrastructures as an engine for development and pointed out that “transport infrastructure development is indispensable in Latin America, in order to grow by attracting investment and generating wealth”. In relation to Chile, he recalled the infrastructures plan that the country has underway, “which is essential to promote growth and, ultimately, employment”.

OHL, nearly 50 years working in Latin America

Josep Piqué highlighted that the Group has been working in the region for nearly 50 years, gathering more than 9,500 employees. Specifically in Chile, where more than 3,000 persons are employed, the concessions, construction and industrial divisions are present, with projects such as the Eastern Vespucio Toll Road, the Industrial Bridge toll road concession over the Biobío River, the route 60 and the route T-85. In addition to these projects, it is important to mention the Chacrillas dam execution, as well as the operation and maintenance of the copper mineral treatment plant in Calama, and works in the Santiago Subway, specifically in Lines 3 and 6. As regards ports, the OHL Group holds a
concession of Terminal 2 of the Port of Valparaíso, designed to double the port’s current capacity.
